Is Berkshire Hathaway a Buy Now?

Berkshire Hathaway (BRK.B), the financial conglomerate powered by its insurance business and a diversified portfolio of value stocks, grabbed headlines after major news. On 3 May 2025, legendary Chairman and CEO Warren Buffett stepped down at 94, sparking a sharp share price drop. Berkshire’s stock quickly recovered, however, reflecting strong investor confidence in the company’s fundamentals. This raises the question: Is now the right time to buy? The answer lies in the rest of the article, which is also the reason that Berkshire has been my core holding for the past three years.

At 94, Buffett’s retirement was long expected—common sense dictates no CEO stays that long. The 3 May announcement was no shock, just a matter of timing. As a well-established financial conglomerate, Berkshire runs like a polished corporation, not a family business. Its standardized systems ensure stability, with or without Buffett. Consider Apple (AAPL): after Steve Jobs’ death in 2011, CEO Tim Cook (often criticized as less visionary) kept profits soaring. Similarly, Buffett’s exit—or even his eventual passing—won’t derail Berkshire. Sentiment-driven sell-offs, like the one in May, are mere noise in an uptrend, offering savvy investors chances to buy on dips, take long call positions, or short puts.
