It is said that Chinese people have little to do with a sense of humor, at least the concept of 'humor' had to be translated by Mr. Lin Yutang before it began to appear and be discussed in the Chinese-speaking world. Of course, the lack of a sense of humor is also inseparable from ethnicity and culture. Hong Kong people, deeply influenced by traditional Chinese culture, consider humor difficult to present on grand occasions, as it is a manifestation of frivolity, superficiality, and childishness, yet they also love the hearty laughter that humor brings.
Humor is a spice of life, and everyone can have different tastes—sarcasm, innuendo, imitation, and puns... but it is indispensable, especially in the face of a society with a worrying future. Hearty laughter can both release endorphins in the brain and temporarily alleviate the sense of helplessness in reality.
